COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Social Work program is structured to provide a comprehensive foundation in both theory and practice, preparing students for professional social work roles. In the first year, students are introduced to the core principles of social work, including human growth and development, law and policy, and contemporary issues affecting individuals and communities. Foundational skills in assessment, communication, and intervention are developed alongside an understanding of relevant theories and their practical applications. In the second year, students begin their first practice placement, gaining hands-on experience in social work settings while continuing to build academic knowledge through modules in research methods, social work with adults, and work with children and families. These experiences enable students to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios, enhancing their problem-solving and professional decision-making abilities. The final year focuses on consolidating skills and competencies through an advanced practice placement, allowing students to demonstrate professional growth, autonomy, and ethical judgment in diverse social care environments. Additional modules further refine practical abilities and critical thinking, ensuring students graduate as well-prepared, adaptable, and reflective practitioners capable of meeting the complex challenges of modern social work practice and contributing effectively to the wellbeing of individuals and communities.
