COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology degree at the University of Salford provides a comprehensive study of human behaviour, combining theoretical understanding with practical research skills. In the first year, students are introduced to core areas of psychology, exploring the philosophical roots of the discipline, research approaches, and essential academic skills. Foundational qualitative and quantitative research methods are taught alongside optional modules such as coding for R, contemporary psychology topics, and the psychology of happiness, allowing students to tailor their learning. In the second year, students build on this foundation with advanced topics including biological psychology, developmental psychology, cognitive paradigms, individual differences, and social psychology, while further developing research and professional skills. Optional modules in areas such as environmental psychology, forensic psychology, and data science provide opportunities for specialization. The final year focuses on independent study through a dissertation, alongside professional skills development and elective modules covering topics such as educational psychology, occupational psychology, media psychology, and the psychology of extreme violence. Work placements and applied experiences, including animal therapy, enable students to gain hands-on exposure and professional practice. Graduates of the program leave equipped with strong analytical, research, and applied psychology skills, ready for careers in clinical, educational, organizational, or research-focused roles, as well as further postgraduate study.
