COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology with Sport and Exercise degree provides a comprehensive understanding of psychology with a specific focus on sport and exercise contexts. In the first year, students develop a foundation in core areas of psychology, research methods, and philosophical approaches while exploring sport psychology principles, psychological assessment, and strategies to enhance athlete performance. The second year builds on this knowledge with modules covering behaviour change, biological, cognitive, developmental, and social psychology, alongside advanced research methods and professional skills. Students continue to develop applied skills in psychological assessment and strategies for athletes, preparing them for real-world applications. In the final year, the emphasis is on professional development, applied sport psychology with teams, critical issues in sport psychology, and an independent dissertation project, allowing students to integrate theory and practice. Optional modules allow for further specialization, including areas such as child development, educational psychology, occupational psychology, health psychology, forensic psychology, and animal therapy. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience and develop essential transferable skills, including communication, problem-solving, and analytical abilities. Accredited by the British Psychological Society, this degree provides the foundation for graduates to pursue professional training as psychologists and equips them with the expertise to contribute effectively in sport, exercise, coaching, education, and related professional or research pathways.
