COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology with Animal Behaviour degree offers a comprehensive study of human and animal behaviour, blending theoretical knowledge with practical experience. In the first year, students are introduced to core areas of psychology, research methods, and the fundamentals of human and animal interaction, alongside foundational courses in qualitative and quantitative analysis. The second year builds on this knowledge with modules covering biological psychology, developmental and social psychology, primate behaviour and conservation, and further research skills, enabling students to explore the evolutionary, cognitive, and social aspects of both human and animal behaviour. This practical and analytical focus prepares students for applied research and professional practice. In the final year, students undertake a dissertation and engage with advanced topics such as animal cognition, social complexity, and animal therapy, developing independent research and practical skills. Additionally, students can choose optional modules in areas such as forensic psychology, educational psychology, brain and behaviour, and occupational psychology, or participate in work placements, allowing them to tailor their studies to career goals. Through a combination of lectures, practical sessions, research projects, and field-based learning, graduates gain a deep understanding of the reciprocal influence between humans and animals, preparing them for careers in psychology, animal welfare, research, conservation, and related professional or postgraduate pathways.
