COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Prosthetics and Orthotics program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the theory and practice required to become competent practitioners in this specialized field. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational concepts including biomechanics, human biology, materials, manufacturing, and design, alongside an overview of general prosthetic and orthotic practice. Emphasis is placed on developing professional skills and understanding the practical applications of these disciplines. The second year builds on this foundation, with modules focusing on motion analysis, research methods, and further prosthetic and orthotic practice. Students apply their learning in progressive clinical settings, consolidating knowledge of human biology while enhancing their professional practice skills. The third year is primarily devoted to final placements, allowing students to gain real-world experience in clinical environments under supervision, preparing them for professional employment. Alongside practical placements, students undertake a dissertation to develop research, analytical, and critical thinking skills, reflecting on contemporary issues and innovations in the field. The program equips students with the practical expertise, scientific knowledge, and professional competence necessary to assess, design, and provide prosthetic and orthotic devices. Graduates are fully prepared for employment in the UK and internationally, making a meaningful impact on patients’ quality of life through expert clinical care and innovative solutions.
