COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physics degree at Salford provides a comprehensive study of the fundamental principles and applications of physics, preparing students for careers in research, industry, and education. In the first year, students build a solid foundation through modules covering core topics such as mechanics, relativity, quantum physics, electricity, magnetism, light, and mathematical methods, complemented by practical experience in the physics laboratory and modelling of physical systems. The second year expands this knowledge into specialized areas, including quantum physics, waves and optics, thermal physics, and electromagnetism, while students continue laboratory work and have the opportunity to explore optional modules such as acoustics, group projects, or language studies. In the final year, students undertake an independent physics project, consolidating their analytical, experimental, and problem-solving skills. Advanced topics such as nuclear and particle physics, condensed matter physics, and astrophysics and planetary physics provide in-depth insight into contemporary scientific challenges. Small group teaching and hands-on laboratory experience ensure students develop practical expertise alongside theoretical understanding.
