COURSE CURRICULUM

The Occupational Therapy degree is structured to develop students’ professional knowledge, practical skills, and critical understanding across three progressive years. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of the profession, exploring core concepts such as the nature of occupational therapy, the significance of occupation, and the development of professional identity. They gain initial practical experience through modules focused on occupational therapy in practice, allowing them to observe and engage with real-world settings while reflecting on professional roles and responsibilities. The second year builds on this foundation, emphasizing the application of occupational therapy within specific contexts. Students develop their professional identity further, learn to evidence practice effectively, and study modules focused on promoting occupational wellbeing and health, all while engaging in increasingly complex practical experiences that consolidate their learning. In the final year, students focus on advanced professional practice and autonomy, preparing for the transition into qualified practice. Modules cover promoting wellbeing, moving into practice, and shaping the future of occupational therapy, including professional, personal, and ethical development. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to integrate theory with practice, developing the skills, confidence, and professional judgment required to become autonomous occupational therapists ready to support diverse populations in a range of healthcare and community settings.
