COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mental Health Nursing degree prepares students for a professional career in supporting individuals with mental health needs across hospital and community settings. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules such as Introduction to Mental Health Nursing, Practice Module Part 1, Transdisciplinary Science, and Voices and Choices, focusing on understanding mental health, communication, and the principles of patient-centered care. The second year develops applied skills and clinical competence through modules including Developing Mental Health Nursing, Evidence-Based Interventional Nursing, Practice Module Part 2, and Mental Health Field Specific Care Needs, allowing students to implement theory in real-world practice while gaining experience in diverse care environments such as the NHS, independent sector, and prison placements. Practical learning constitutes 50% of the curriculum, giving students the opportunity to work alongside qualified assessors and supervisors, enhancing professional confidence and competence. In the final year, the focus shifts to preparing students for autonomous practice and leadership roles through modules like Being an Autonomous Mental Health Practitioner, Being an Inspiring Mental Health Practitioner, Practice Module Part 3, and Leading Mental Health Nursing. Graduates complete the course with a recognised degree qualification and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, fully equipped to deliver compassionate, effective, and evidence-based mental health care in a variety of professional settings.
