COURSE CURRICULUM

The Children and Young People Nursing degree provides a structured and comprehensive pathway to becoming a skilled and professional nurse, equipped to care for children, young people, and their families in a variety of healthcare settings. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational aspects of the profession, including core nursing principles, transdisciplinary science, and the development of communication and decision-making skills through modules such as Introduction to Children and Young People Nursing, Practice Module Part 1, and Voices and Choices. The second year builds on this knowledge, focusing on field-specific care needs, evidence-based interventions, and the development of professional competence through modules like Children and Young People Field Specific Care Needs, Developing Children and Young Peoples Nursing, and Practice Module Part 2. Students gain hands-on experience in clinical environments, applying theory to practice under supervision. In the third year, the focus shifts to preparing students for autonomous professional practice, leadership, and innovation in care delivery. Modules such as Being an Autonomous Children and Young People’s Practitioner, Being an Inspiring Children and Young People’s Practitioner, Practice Module Part 3, and Leading Children and Young Peoples Nursing develop advanced clinical skills, critical thinking, and leadership abilities. Graduates leave the program ready to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and provide safe, effective, and compassionate care in a range of child and youth healthcare contexts.
