COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Geography degree at Salford provides a broad and in-depth understanding of the environment and the ways humans interact with it. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules such as Earth Surface Processes, Environmental Resources, People, Place and Space, and Sustainability and Environment, alongside applied skills and field courses that give practical experience. In the second year, students develop technical and research expertise with modules including Geographical Information Systems and Science, Research in Action, and Environmental Protection, while choosing additional options such as Consultancy Project, Monitoring Environmental Change, University Wide Language, or Coastal Management. This combination of core and optional modules allows students to tailor their learning to their interests while gaining essential fieldwork and analytical skills. In the third year, the focus shifts to advanced applications and research, with modules such as Mitigating Climate Change, Sustainable Cities, and a 40-credit Dissertation. Students further select from trimester options including Development and Global Challenges, Environmental Remote Sensing, Global Rivers in a Changing Climate, Environment and Wellbeing, or University Wide Language, providing opportunities to specialise and expand knowledge in specific areas. The course integrates fieldwork, practical skills, and research, preparing graduates for careers in environmental management, sustainability, urban planning, and related professions.
