COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Building Surveying program is structured over three years to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the technical, legal, and managerial aspects of the built environment. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in law and regulatory frameworks, economics and management, surveying practice, building construction and defects, digital design, and environmental science, establishing essential skills in building assessment and design. The second year builds on this foundation with modules in technology, building design studies, procurement and administration, sustainable and energy-efficient buildings, development appraisal and viability, and property law, preparing students to understand complex construction projects and integrate sustainability and financial considerations into their work. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics such as building maintenance and retrofit, conservation and urban regeneration, building pathology, and professional practice, alongside a discipline research project and a building surveying project. This stage emphasizes practical application, critical analysis, and problem-solving, enabling students to evaluate, manage, and improve existing structures. The program equips graduates with the technical expertise, professional awareness, and practical experience required for successful careers as building surveyors, capable of addressing refurbishment, conservation, regeneration, and maintenance challenges while meeting industry standards and contributing to the sustainable development of the built environment.
