COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biological Sciences BSc program is structured over three years to provide a comprehensive understanding of life sciences, combining theoretical knowledge with practical and research skills. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in biological skills, biodiversity, molecules to microbes, genetics, cell biology, and study skills, establishing essential laboratory techniques and scientific literacy. The second year builds on this foundation with modules in pathophysiology, biological research skills, parasitology and infectious diseases, and animal physiology. Students also have the opportunity to tailor their learning by choosing options such as microbial communities and interactions, ecology in action, molecular genetics, ocean challenges, or participation in the University Wide Language program, allowing exploration of specialized areas of interest. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics including the biology of parasites and antimicrobial resistance, alongside completing a final year project that integrates professional skills and scientific communication. Additional options enable further specialization in biotechnology, clinical immunology, practical ecology and conservation, veterinary and zoonotic infectious diseases, applied freshwater biology, or language studies. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on hands-on laboratory experience, fieldwork, and research-based learning, equipping students with practical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Graduates are prepared for careers in research, healthcare, environmental management, conservation, biotechnology, and related fields, with the adaptability to address emerging scientific challenges.
