COURSE CURRICULUM

The Theatre and Performance degree provides students with a comprehensive foundation in both practical and academic aspects of performance, preparing them for diverse careers on stage, screen, and other performance platforms. In the first year, students develop essential performance skills and techniques through modules such as Performance Workshop, Acting Methods, and Performance in Context, while engaging with critical and textual studies to support their understanding of theatre and performance theory. In the second year, students expand their expertise through Performance Studies and Performance Projects, alongside a wide range of optional modules that allow them to explore areas such as acting for the camera, screenwriting, comedy performance, theatre-making, physical theatre, Shakespeare, and community-focused performance. These options enable students to tailor their learning to their individual interests and career aspirations. In the final year, students consolidate their knowledge and skills through a Theatre Project and a Performance Research Project, while engaging with Careers and Professional Pathways to prepare for the industry. Additional optional modules offer opportunities to specialize further in areas including TV and film scriptwriting, gender and sexuality in performance, TV and radio acting, theatre directing, social media performance, motion capture, classical theatre, and comedy. This structure ensures graduates leave with a versatile skill set, industry insight, and practical experience, ready to succeed in the competitive field of theatre and performance.
