COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Journalism degree offers a comprehensive education in the theory and practice of reporting, broadcasting, and producing sports content across multiple media platforms. In the first year, students build foundational skills with modules covering introduction to sports journalism, essential reporting, audio and video storytelling and production, social media for sport, and law and ethics. This provides the technical and professional groundwork necessary for effective sports reporting. In the second year, students develop advanced capabilities through modules in sports journalism, broadcast journalism, sports newsroom management, and sports broadcasting and commentary, alongside the study of sport history, culture, and governance. Optional modules such as podcasting, future journalism, and sport in the digital world allow students to tailor their learning to emerging industry trends and personal interests. The final year focuses on professional practice, with opportunities to complete a major journalism project or dissertation, and advanced sports journalism modules. Additional options, including globalisation of sport, magazine journalism, photojournalism, political and campaigning journalism, and sports club media, enable students to specialise further and gain insight into diverse areas of the profession. Through hands-on experience, practical projects, and industry-focused learning, students graduate equipped with the skills, confidence, and professional networks needed to launch successful careers in sports journalism across print, broadcast, and digital media.
