COURSE CURRICULUM

The Photography degree provides a comprehensive exploration of both the technical and conceptual aspects of the medium, guiding students from foundational skills to advanced independent practice. In the first year, students develop core photographic techniques and creative thinking through modules such as Imagined Communities, Urban and Rural, Street and Studio, Photography and the Book, Establishing Frameworks, and Exploring Creative Contexts. These courses build a solid understanding of visual storytelling, composition, and critical analysis. In the second year, students expand their practice and engage with broader industry and conceptual contexts through modules like Photography in Context, Exploring Possibilities, Constructing Worlds and Meanings, Opportunities and Industry, Developing Frameworks, and Responding to Creative Contexts, enabling them to experiment with ideas and refine their professional and creative identity. The third year focuses on advanced practice and independent research, with modules such as Towards Resolution, Resolution, Applying Frameworks, and the Independent Research Project, encouraging students to synthesize their learning, develop a personal artistic voice, and produce a cohesive body of work. Throughout the course, students are supported in developing both practical and transferable skills, preparing them for a wide range of creative careers in photography, visual media, and related industries, as well as for further study or professional artistic practice.
