COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Journalism and Public Relations degree offers a dynamic and integrated approach to media, equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed for careers in journalism, public relations, or related fields. In the first year, students build a foundation in creating content, understanding law and ethics, and developing essential reporting skills, alongside introductions to both journalism and public relations. Year two focuses on advanced practice, including PR campaigns and strategy, reputation management, multimedia journalism, and newsroom simulations through newsdays. Students can also tailor their learning through a range of optional modules, covering areas such as lifestyle journalism, feature writing, sports reporting, political communication, music journalism, podcasting, and war and conflict reporting, enabling them to explore their interests in depth. In the final year, students specialise in either journalism or public relations, developing practical skills through focused practice modules and completing a major project or dissertation. Additional optional modules in areas such as photojournalism, magazine journalism, investigative reporting, or media policy provide further opportunities for students to refine their expertise. The program combines theory with practical experience, emphasizing multimedia, digital content, and professional applications. Graduates leave with a well-rounded portfolio, prepared to pursue careers as journalists, PR practitioners, or media professionals capable of producing engaging, ethical, and impactful content across multiple platforms.
