COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Fine Art degree at the University of Salford is designed to develop students’ creativity and critical thinking through a combination of studio practice and theoretical study. In the first year, students are introduced to studio culture and artistic practice through modules such as Introduction to Studio Culture, Introduction to Art and Ideas, and Models of Scholarship and Practice, allowing them to explore different methods, materials, and approaches while beginning to understand the relationship between ideas and making. The second year focuses on the relationship between the artist and the audience, with Studio Practice 1: Artist and Audience and Studio Practice 2: Development, alongside Visual Analysis and Art in Context, enabling students to refine their artistic voice, experiment with techniques, and critically engage with contemporary and historical art contexts. In the final year, students consolidate their skills and knowledge through a Dissertation, Professional Studio Practice, and Professional Futures modules, preparing them for professional careers in the creative industries. The course emphasizes both the conceptual and practical aspects of fine art, encouraging exploration, research, and innovation, while providing guidance on professional development, exhibition, collaboration, and entrepreneurial skills. Graduates leave equipped to pursue careers as practicing artists, curators, or arts professionals in a variety of creative sectors.
