COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Film, Television, and Stage Design degree at the University of Salford provides a structured and practical approach to developing skills in 3D design for screen and stage. In the first year, students focus on foundational skills through modules such as 3D Design Principles, 3D Design Procedures and Practice, Establishing Professional Practice for 3D Design, Exploring Creative Contexts, Design for Script, and Design for Location, learning to develop concepts from initial ideas to physical models while understanding the context of film, television, and stage production. The second year builds on this knowledge with more specialised modules including Design for Studio Set, Design for Drama Set, Developing Professional Practice for 3D Design, Design in Practice, and Responding to Creative Contexts, allowing students to apply their technical skills in collaborative projects and gain insight into professional workflows. In the final year, students focus on advanced projects and independent research through Design for Short Film Project, Applied Professional Practice for 3D Design, Research Methods for Film, Television and Stage Design, and a Negotiated Major Project. The course emphasizes practical application, creative experimentation, and professional preparation, equipping graduates with the skills, confidence, and experience to pursue careers in production design, set design, prop creation, and other roles in the film, television, and theatre industries.
