COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Fashion Design degree at the University of Salford provides a comprehensive and industry-focused education, equipping students with the creative, technical, and professional skills needed to succeed in the global fashion industry. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Introduction to Fashion Design, Fashion Design: Principles, Fashion Contexts, Introduction to Pattern Cutting and Construction Techniques, Fashion Illustration and CAD 1, and 3D Approaches to Design Research, developing essential design, research, and construction skills while exploring the creative process. The second year expands on these skills with Fashion Illustration and CAD 2, Critical Dialogues, Fashion Design Specialism, Digital Fashion Design, Fashion Design Professionalism, and a work placement, offering students practical industry experience and insight into professional design environments. In the final year, students focus on advanced projects and independent work through modules including Design and Research for an External Brief, Pre-collection, Portfolio Module, Major Project Proposal, and a Negotiated Major Project: Collection, allowing them to create and showcase a personal collection while applying research and design strategies in a professional context. Throughout the course, students gain experience with industry-standard techniques, digital tools, and collaborative projects, preparing them for careers as innovative and skilled fashion designers and offering opportunities to display work at major fashion events and in global industry networks.
