COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Choreography degree offers a structured progression that develops creative, technical, and professional skills across three years of study. In the first year, students build a foundation in dance through modules such as Foundations in Dance Techniques, Dance Techniques, Dance Choreography Workshop, Dance Performance Workshop, Dance in Context, and Dance Discourses: Modernism. These modules provide an understanding of movement, choreography, and the historical and theoretical context of dance. In the second year, students expand their knowledge and skills with modules including Dance Discourses: Post Modernism, Digital Dance, Interdisciplinary Dance Practices, Technical Development, and a Dance Performance Project. Optional modules such as Work Placement or Professional Practice offer real-world industry experience, allowing students to engage with professional environments and apply their skills in practice. The final year focuses on independent and professional development, with modules including Creative Entrepreneur, Creative Laboratory, Professional Project, and a Self-Directed Project. These projects encourage students to experiment, innovate, and develop their individual choreographic voice, while honing professional skills essential for a career in dance. By the end of the course, graduates are equipped with creative expertise, technical proficiency, and industry experience, preparing them for careers as choreographers, performers, and creative practitioners in diverse dance and performance contexts.
