COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) International and Military History degree provides a comprehensive exploration of global conflict, diplomacy, and power from the late 18th century to the present day. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge through core modules such as International History (1890–1945 and 1945–Present), Introduction to Contemporary Military History (Parts 1 and 2), The Cold War, and Making Public History, which together build a strong understanding of major conflicts, military developments, and historical interpretation. The second year deepens this knowledge with modules like Age of Revolution: International History 1775–1914, Themes and Theories of War, and Researching in History, while offering a range of optional subjects including Air Power and Modern Warfare, Armoured Warfare, Intelligence and Security in Britain, and US Political History. Students can also study a language or explore themes such as commemoration and dictatorship. In the final year, students complete an independent Dissertation and choose from advanced modules such as The First World War, British Counter-Insurgency Since 1945, The Pacific War, Intelligence and Cyber Warfare, and Chinese Foreign Policy Since 1949. With opportunities for placements or language study, the program combines historical depth with analytical and research skills, preparing graduates for diverse global and historical careers.
