COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Research Methods in Psychology programme includes a set of compulsory modules focused on advanced research training in cognitive, behavioural, and applied psychology. A key component is Gathering Data for Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience, where students gain practical experience in collecting and analysing neuroscientific data such as fMRI and EEG, with an emphasis on robust, open, and reproducible research practices. Analysing Data Using R develops advanced statistical and computational skills, enabling students to apply R programming to psychological data analysis and prepare for dissertation-level research. Programming for Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences introduces experimental design and coding skills using tools such as MATLAB, Psychtoolbox, and Palamedes, supporting the development of experimental research in cognitive science. The Empirical Project allows students to design, conduct, and report an independent research study, building essential research, analytical, and communication skills. A Research Placement module provides hands-on experience working with established researchers, allowing students to engage with real-world research challenges and apply theoretical knowledge in practice. Additionally, Gathering Data for Applied Psychology strengthens skills in collecting and interpreting psychological data in applied contexts. Overall, these modules collectively develop strong methodological expertise, technical proficiency, and practical research experience, preparing students for advanced academic study or research-focused careers in psychology and neuroscience.
