COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Finance and Financial Technology (FinTech) curriculum at the ICMA Centre is designed to combine core financial theory with advanced digital technologies that are reshaping the financial services industry. The programme begins with foundational modules in finance, covering financial markets, investment principles, securities valuation and risk management, ensuring students develop a strong understanding of how modern financial systems operate. Alongside this, students are trained in quantitative and computational methods, with a strong emphasis on Python programming for financial applications, data analysis and modelling. A key component of the curriculum focuses on FinTech innovations, including digital banking, payment systems, blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, highlighting how these tools are transforming transactions, lending and investment services. Students also explore machine learning techniques and their application to large financial datasets, supporting areas such as algorithmic trading, risk prediction and customer behaviour analysis. The programme includes practical exposure through trading simulations involving equities, futures and options, helping students apply theoretical knowledge to real market scenarios. Additional modules cover big data analytics in finance and insurance, as well as financial regulation in the digital age, including cybersecurity, data protection and ethical challenges in FinTech development. Professional skills development is supported through certifications such as KNIME and training in data-driven decision-making tools.
