COURSE CURRICULUM

This MSc Economics programme provides advanced training in economic theory, quantitative methods, and empirical analysis, preparing students for high-level roles in economics, policy, and research. The compulsory modules include Advanced Microeconomic Analysis, where you study consumer and producer behaviour, game theory, general equilibrium, welfare economics, and market failure using mathematical approaches. Advanced Macroeconomic Analysis develops your understanding of modern macroeconomic theory and policy using computational tools such as MATLAB and Dynare to model economic dynamics. Econometrics I and II build strong empirical skills, covering cross-sectional, time series, and panel data analysis, with hands-on training in software such as STATA and R, enabling you to critically evaluate and conduct economic research. The Dissertation allows you to independently investigate an economic problem, demonstrating originality, research design skills, and critical analysis of literature. Optional modules offer further specialisation in areas such as financial markets, business economics, development economics, social policy, and behavioural economics. You can also study Advances in Causal Inference, which introduces modern microeconometric techniques for applied research. A Capstone Project provides practical experience by working in teams on real-world assignments for external organisations under academic supervision. Overall, the programme develops advanced analytical, computational, and research skills, equipping graduates for careers in academia, government, international organisations, consultancy, and financial sectors.
