COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Construction Management curriculum is designed to build advanced knowledge and practical skills in managing construction projects, organisations, and the wider built environment sector. The compulsory modules begin with Principles of Sustainable Construction, which develops understanding of sustainability across economic, environmental, and social dimensions, enabling students to evaluate and apply sustainable practices in construction projects. Construction Contract Law and Procurement focuses on procurement systems, contractual frameworks, and ethical professional practice, covering the full project lifecycle from planning to completion. Business Innovation and Strategy equips students with leadership, strategic management, and innovation skills, with emphasis on modern technologies and sustainable business practices in construction. Research Skills prepares students to develop research questions, apply methodologies, and analyse data effectively, leading into the Research Dissertation, where they conduct an independent study on a construction-related topic. Managing Construction Projects: Risk and Offsite Interface explores project delivery techniques such as Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA), focusing on cost, time, and quality management. Innovations in Digital Practice examines the use of digital tools, data, and socio-technical systems in the built environment. Optional modules include Infrastructure Development and Appraisal, Advanced Project Management, BIM and Socio-technical Change, and Construction Cost Planning and Economics, allowing specialisation in technical, managerial, and financial aspects of construction. Overall, the curriculum integrates sustainability, law, management, and digital innovation to prepare graduates for professional roles in construction management and consultancy.
