COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Construction Cost Management curriculum is designed to develop advanced knowledge of financial, legal, technical, and management aspects of the construction and built environment sector. The programme begins with core modules such as Principles of Sustainable Construction, which explores environmental, economic, and social sustainability and its application in construction projects, and Construction Contract Law and Procurement, which provides a detailed understanding of procurement strategies, contractual frameworks, and ethical professional practice across the project lifecycle. Students also study Infrastructure Development and Appraisal, focusing on the planning, feasibility, and financial evaluation of infrastructure projects in different economic contexts. Construction Cost Planning and Economics develops practical skills in cost estimation, financial control, and economic analysis across all stages of development. Research Skills prepares students for independent academic work, leading into the Research Dissertation, where they investigate a construction-related problem using appropriate methodologies. BIM and Socio-technical Change introduces Building Information Modelling and explores how digital technologies and organisational systems interact in the built environment. Optional modules such as Business Innovation and Strategy, Advanced Project Management, Managing Construction Projects: Risk and Offsite Interface, and Innovations in Digital Practice further enhance leadership, digital, and project management capabilities. Overall, the curriculum integrates sustainability, law, economics, and digital innovation, preparing graduates for professional roles in construction cost management, quantity surveying, project management, and leadership within the global construction industry.
