COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Climate Change and Artificial Intelligence (AI) programme at the University of Reading integrates climate science, data science, and AI to equip students with advanced analytical and decision-making skills for addressing climate-related challenges. The compulsory modules begin with “Climate Change: Causes and Consequences,” which builds understanding of the drivers of climate change, its impacts, and approaches to mitigation and adaptation across local, national, and global scales. “Applied Data Science with Python” introduces practical programming skills, enabling students to work with data science tools and develop transferable computational abilities. “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” focuses on modern AI techniques and their application using Python, alongside developing research and technical reporting skills. In “Data Science and Climate Services,” students learn to process and interpret climate data, applying statistical methods to support decision-making while communicating results effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. “Climate Change and Sustainable Business and Finance” explores how climate risks affect businesses, governments, and financial systems, incorporating AI and analytics into economic and policy contexts. “Causality and Decision-making” develops critical thinking through causal inference and decision modelling, with emphasis on real-world climate policy challenges and ethical considerations. The programme also includes a “Weather and Climate Discussion” module to understand current climate events, and a dissertation research project that allows students to conduct independent, specialised research, preparing them for careers in climate science, data analytics, and sustainability-focused industries.
