COURSE CURRICULUM

This MSc Economics programme provides rigorous training in applied economic theory, quantitative methods, and policy analysis, with a strong emphasis on real-world problem solving. The compulsory modules build a solid foundation in microeconomic and macroeconomic policy, helping you understand how individuals, firms, and governments make decisions and how these decisions influence outcomes such as growth, inflation, employment, and market efficiency. Economic Data Analysis develops your ability to work with empirical data and apply statistical techniques commonly used in economic research, while Topics in Business Economics focuses on firm behaviour, market structure, competition, pricing strategies, mergers, and regulatory intervention. The programme is completed with a Dissertation, where you independently investigate an economic problem, conduct literature review, design a research approach, and present original analysis and findings. Optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as econometrics, financial markets, development economics, social policy, and behavioural economics, as well as an introduction to econometric techniques for empirical research. A Capstone Project provides additional applied experience by working in teams on a real assignment for an external organisation, supported by academic supervision. Overall, the course prepares graduates for careers in economics, policy analysis, consultancy, finance, and research by combining theoretical depth, quantitative skills, and practical application.
