COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Applied Meteorology and Climate with Management programme combines advanced meteorology and climate science with essential management and organisational training, preparing students for both scientific and leadership roles in meteorological and climate-related sectors. The course includes core scientific modules such as Fundamentals of Weather and Climate, which develops understanding of atmospheric processes, thermodynamics, and climate systems, and Data Analysis and Forecasting Systems for Weather and Climate, which focuses on scientific computing, statistical analysis, and numerical weather prediction techniques used in operational forecasting. A key management-focused module, Managing People and Organisations, explores human behaviour in organisational settings by drawing on insights from management, psychology, sociology, political science, and philosophy, helping students understand how to effectively lead and work within organisations. The Managing Transformation module further develops skills in managing organisational and personal change, including frameworks for implementing effective transformation strategies and overcoming barriers to change. Students also complete a Dissertation: Research Project, where they conduct independent research in a specialist area of meteorology or climate science. Additional learning is supported through Weather and Climate Discussion sessions and optional modules such as Remote Sensing, Climate Change, Air Pollution, and Data Science and Climate Services. Overall, the curriculum integrates scientific expertise with management capability, preparing graduates for careers in meteorology, climate services, forecasting, environmental agencies, and leadership roles in scientific and operational organisations.
