COURSE CURRICULUM

This MSc in Economics provides advanced training in both theoretical foundations and applied methods to analyse real-world economic and policy issues. The compulsory modules develop a strong core in microeconomic and macroeconomic policy, helping you understand individual, firm, and government behaviour, alongside key issues such as growth, inflation, and unemployment. You will build strong quantitative and empirical skills through Economic Data Analysis, learning how to apply statistical techniques to real datasets, while Applied Behavioural Economics introduces psychological insights into economic decision-making and their implications for policy design. The programme also places strong emphasis on evaluation skills through Economic Appraisal and Evaluation Methods, where you learn how to assess policies in terms of efficiency, equity, and real-world impact across both developed and developing economies. A key component is the Applied Economic Project, allowing you to conduct an in-depth independent investigation of a policy issue or economic intervention using rigorous analytical methods. Optional modules further strengthen your expertise in areas such as econometrics, financial markets, business economics, and development economics. The Capstone Project provides hands-on experience working in teams for external organisations, applying economic analysis to real policy problems. Overall, the programme equips graduates for careers in government, international organisations, consultancy, finance, and research.
