COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Agricultural Economics programme combines compulsory and optional modules designed to build advanced expertise in economic theory, quantitative analysis, and applied development issues, with a strong focus on agriculture, environment, and global policy challenges. The core structure includes a Dissertation, where students independently research a chosen topic under academic supervision, applying the knowledge and skills developed throughout the course. Econometrics equips students with advanced data analysis skills, including model specification, hypothesis testing, interpretation of results, and the use of statistical software. Environmental and Resource Economics provides a foundation in applying economic principles to environmental and natural resource challenges, while Consumers, Producers, Markets and Trade focuses on microeconomic theory, behavioural economics, and international trade analysis using real-world case studies. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests in agricultural systems, climate change, development finance, microfinance, food policy, supply chains, food security, behavioural change, and public policy. Additional modules such as Development Economics and Global Environmental Change, Justice and Development explore broader issues of inequality, sustainability, and socio-economic transformation in developing contexts. The Appraisal of Agricultural and Rural Development Projects module strengthens skills in evaluating economic, social, and environmental impacts of development initiatives. Overall, the programme provides a strong analytical and policy-oriented training, preparing graduates for careers in international development, research, government, and organisations focused on sustainable agriculture and global food systems.
