COURSE CURRICULUM

The programme is structured around a combination of compulsory and optional modules designed to develop advanced expertise in economics, marketing, research methods, and applied development issues, culminating in an independent dissertation. The Dissertation module allows students to undertake original research on a chosen topic under academic supervision, integrating knowledge gained throughout the course. Research Methods in Economics and Marketing equips students with the theoretical and practical tools needed to design, conduct, and evaluate research, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Consumers, Producers, Markets and Trade focuses on microeconomic theory and behavioural economics, enabling students to analyse consumer and producer behaviour, market structures, and international trade using real-world case studies. Econometrics develops quantitative skills, teaching students how to build and test statistical models, interpret results, and apply software for empirical economic analysis. Optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as agricultural and rural development project appraisal, environmental and resource economics, energy and climate change policy, poverty and gender studies in development, consumer behaviour, public policy analysis, financial markets, and global food security. Together, these modules provide a strong foundation in economic theory and applied analysis while addressing pressing global challenges such as inequality, sustainability, climate change, and food systems. Overall, the structure prepares students for research careers, policy roles, and further academic study.
