COURSE CURRICULUM

This MA by Research in Film, Theatre and Television is a flexible, research-intensive degree designed for students who want to pursue independent work across screen and stage media. It combines a compulsory dissertation or practical project with supportive supervision, allowing students to develop either a critical written study or practice-based output supported by analytical reflection. Students also take taught modules that build research and professional skills through seminars, workshops, industry engagement and technical training. Exploring Screen Practices develops production and filmmaking skills through short projects and masterclasses while linking creative process with critical analysis. Film-focused study includes global cinematic movements, industry peaks and comparative analysis of blockbusters, arthouse cinema and indigenous film traditions. Screen Bodies examines representation, embodiment and ethics of visibility, focusing on cultural constructions of identity and marginalised screen experiences. Film Programming and Film Festivals explores curatorial practices, distribution networks and the cultural politics of global festival circuits. Adaptation across Stage and Screen analyses transformations between media including theatre, film and television and examines political and cultural dimensions of storytelling. Performance and Design focuses on scenography, design practice, archival study and engagement with visiting industry professionals.
