COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB Law degree at the University of Reading is structured around a set of compulsory modules designed to build a strong foundation in legal knowledge, analytical thinking, and practical skills. In the first year, students study Contract, where they learn the core principles of agreement formation and legal reasoning through case analysis, and Criminal Law, which introduces key offences, defences, and the development of criminal law through statute and precedent. English Legal Systems and Skills develops essential academic and professional abilities such as legal research, writing, analysis, and oral presentation, while also exploring the relationship between law and wider social contexts. Public Law 1 introduces constitutional and administrative law, including the structure of the UK legal system and the protection of rights. Tort examines civil wrongs and liability through the application of case law and statutory principles. In the second year, students progress to Equity and Trusts, EU Law, and Land Law, gaining deeper insight into property rights, European legal structures, and equitable principles, alongside Public Law 2, which further develops understanding of judicial review and human rights protection. In the final year, students complete either a dissertation, research writing credit, or a pro bono and professional practice module, allowing them to apply their learning through independent research or practical legal experience.
