COURSE CURRICULUM

This LLB Law with Criminology degree combines a rigorous foundation in English law with a critical understanding of crime, justice, and social order. In the first year, you build core legal knowledge through English Legal Systems and Skills, Contract, Criminal Law, Tort, Public Law, and Introduction to Criminal Justice, developing skills in legal reasoning, case analysis, and written and oral argument. Alongside this, you begin engaging with criminology by exploring how crime is defined, controlled, and understood within society. In the second year, your studies expand into Equity and Trusts, EU Law, Land Law, and Public Law 2, deepening your grasp of key legal doctrines while continuing criminological study through Introduction to Criminology. This stage develops your ability to connect legal principles with wider issues such as power, rights, and institutional decision-making. In your final year, you complete a dissertation, allowing independent research into a legal or criminological topic of your choice, supported by optional modules such as Crimes of the Powerful, Gender and Law, Prisons in Crisis, and Police and Society. Across the programme, you develop analytical, research, and advocacy skills while exploring how law operates in practice and how crime is shaped by social, political, and economic forces in contemporary society.
