The BSc Biochemistry with Professional Experience at the University of Reading is structured to progressively build knowledge from fundamental life sciences to advanced research and applied biotechnology, while also including a dedicated year of industry experience. A key feature of this programme is the Professional Experience Year, where students spend a full year working in industry, gaining real-world experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or related sectors. In the final year, students complete advanced study through compulsory modules including a Research Project, Integrated Biochemistry, and Advanced Research Techniques, where they apply laboratory and data analysis skills to real scientific problems. Optional modules in this year expand into specialised fields such as neuroscience, cancer and cell communication, cardiovascular biology, epidemiology of zoonotic diseases, forensics, applied microbiology, evolution in health and disease, innovation and product development, venoms and poisons, and microbiology field studies.
