COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Accounting and Management with Placement Experience is a four-year degree that combines professional accounting education with business management studies and a year of industry experience. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation in accounting, business, law, sustainability, and data analytics. They learn the principles of financial record-keeping, management accounting, business performance evaluation, English commercial law, and statistical analysis while also building professional skills such as communication, business writing, time management, and career planning. Modules in sustainability and ethics help students understand the broader social and environmental responsibilities of modern businesses. During the second year, students deepen their knowledge of financial accounting, management accounting, and business finance while exploring how organisations make financial and strategic decisions. A wide range of optional modules allows students to tailor their studies in areas such as taxation, auditing, marketing, entrepreneurship, information systems, climate change and finance, international management, banking law, business strategy, economics, and global business. The third year is spent on a professional industry placement, giving students the opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a real business environment, gain valuable workplace experience, strengthen professional networks, and enhance employability. In the final year, students focus on advanced financial reporting, management accounting, and professional ethics while selecting specialist options that reflect their career interests. Available areas include forensic accounting, business taxation, private equity and venture capital, international business, project management, international marketing, human resource management, digital business, advanced finance, corporate social responsibility, commercial law, and Islamic accounting. Students may also undertake independent accounting or business research projects to develop advanced analytical and investigative skills. Throughout the programme, there is a strong emphasis on ethical decision-making, sustainability, strategic management, leadership, digital transformation, and global business perspectives. The combination of accounting expertise, management knowledge, and practical placement experience prepares graduates for careers in accounting, finance, consulting, management, marketing, entrepreneurship, and corporate leadership. The degree also supports progression towards professional qualifications such as ACCA, ICAEW, and CIMA, providing graduates with both academic credentials and practical experience that are highly valued by employers across a wide range of industries.
