COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Real Estate Development and Planning programme develops specialist knowledge of property markets, urban development, and planning systems, combining finance, law, economics, and sustainability to prepare students for careers in the built environment sector. In the first year, students build foundational skills through modules such as Introduction to Data Analysis, where they learn to interpret and visualise data using tools like Excel and basic statistical methods, and Introductory Economics for Business and Finance, which covers supply and demand, market structures, inflation, and broader macroeconomic forces affecting real estate. They also study Property, Law, Rights and Institutions to understand land ownership, planning systems, and legal frameworks, alongside Real Estate Valuation 1 and Contemporary Issues in Real Estate and Planning, which introduce asset pricing, investment decisions, climate change, housing challenges, and sustainability. Ethics and Sustainable Development further develops awareness of responsible development practices. In later years, students progress to more advanced topics such as Real Estate and Urban Economics, Planning Theory and Practice, and Real Estate Valuation 2, focusing on market dynamics, valuation methods, and spatial planning systems. Modules like Real Estate Entrepreneurship and Technology and Development Appraisal and Finance build practical business and investment skills, while Urban Design in the Development Process and Development Process examine how projects are planned, financed, and delivered. The degree culminates in a Project in Development and Planning, applying theory to real-world challenges in property and urban development.
