COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Psychology at the University of Reading is a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited degree that provides a comprehensive understanding of psychological science while developing strong research and professional skills. In the early stages of the programme, students study core modules such as Applied and Professional Psychology, Debates in Mental Health, Introduction to Psychological Research, Learning about Learning, and The Person and the Brain. These modules introduce key areas including psychological disorders and their treatment, research design and methods, learning and memory, and the biological and cognitive foundations of behaviour. In the second stage, students build on this foundation through more advanced study in Cognitive and Biological Psychology, Development Across the Lifespan, Research Methods in Psychology, Social Psychology and Individual Differences, and Professional and Clinical Practice, gaining deeper insight into neuroscience, human development, social behaviour, and applied psychological careers. The course places strong emphasis on practical experience and employability, including placements in psychology-related settings. In the final stage, students complete an independent research project involving the full research process from literature review to data analysis and reporting. They also study Communicating Current Psychology, which focuses on presenting psychological knowledge to both academic and public audiences. Overall, the programme combines theory, research, and professional practice to prepare students for diverse careers in psychology and related fields or further specialist training.
