COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Psychology with Neuroscience at the University of Reading is a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited degree that combines core psychological science with neuroscience, research training, and professional skills development. In the first stage of the programme, students study foundational modules including Debates in Mental Health, Introduction to Psychological Research, Learning about Learning, and The Person and the Brain, which introduce key concepts in mental health, cognition, learning processes, and the biological bases of behaviour. They also study Introduction to Neuroscience Methods, which develops understanding of modern techniques such as neuroimaging, brain stimulation, neuropsychology, psychophysics, and data visualisation. Alongside this, Applied and Professional Psychology introduces real-world applications of psychology across areas such as health, education, occupational, and forensic psychology, while also focusing on professional ethics and competencies required for practice. In later stages, students progress to more advanced modules including Cognitive and Biological Psychology, Development Across the Lifespan, Research Methods in Psychology, Social Psychology and Individual Differences, and Scientific Computing for Psychologists, which strengthen skills in neuroscience, developmental psychology, data analysis, and programming for psychological research. The degree culminates in an independent research project involving the full research process from design to analysis, alongside Communicating Current Psychology, which develops the ability to present psychological knowledge to academic and public audiences. Overall, the programme prepares students for careers or further study in psychology, neuroscience, and related professional fields.
