COURSE CURRICULUM

BSc Medical Science is a multidisciplinary degree that prepares students to work at the cutting edge of modern medicine by focusing on the scientific principles that underpin disease diagnosis, treatment, and healthcare innovation. In Year 2, students deepen their understanding of disease mechanisms through advanced cellular biology, medical genetics, and research skills, with options including haematology and immunology, infectious diseases, molecular microbiology, medicines in healthcare, bioinformatics, anatomy and physiology, and medical diagnostic technologies. The course places strong emphasis on scientific investigation, critical analysis, data interpretation, and professional development. In the final year, students undertake an independent research project under academic supervision, gaining valuable experience in experimental design, laboratory techniques, data analysis, and scientific communication. A wide range of specialist options allows students to tailor their studies to interests such as cancer biology, endocrinology, neuroscience, cardiovascular disease, diagnostic imaging, radiotherapy, medical imaging, microbiology, gut health, forensic science, pharmacology, and biotechnology. Students also explore innovative healthcare technologies, medical devices, and product development.
