COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Geography and Economics (Regional Science) curriculum integrates human geography and economics to develop a comprehensive understanding of the spatial, social, and economic processes shaping contemporary societies. In the first year, students explore major global challenges through Global Challenges: A Planet in Crisis, examining environmental, social, and economic issues from human geography, physical geography, and environmental science perspectives. Geographical Imaginaries introduces the evolution of geographical thought and methods, while Approaching Human Geography develops a geographical mindset through the study of everyday social and spatial issues. Alongside this, Principles of Economics 1 and 2 provide a foundation in microeconomics, macroeconomics, economic theory, and policy, while Quantitative Methods and Data Analysis equips students with statistical and analytical skills for economic research. In the second year, students deepen their economic knowledge through Intermediate Microeconomics and Intermediate Macroeconomics, covering consumer and producer behaviour, game theory, welfare, growth, inflation, and government policy. Skills Training and Project Design develops research, project management, and professional competencies, while the Field Class offers hands-on experience applying geographical concepts and research methods to real-world urban and economic change. In the final year, students complete an independent dissertation, conducting original research that integrates theoretical knowledge and methodological skills. The programme develops expertise in economic analysis, geographical research, data interpretation, fieldwork, and critical problem-solving, preparing graduates for careers in regional development, urban planning, policy analysis, consultancy, research, and public sector organisations.
