COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Finance programme at Henley Business School within University of Reading provides a structured progression from foundational financial knowledge to advanced skills in corporate finance, investment analysis, and risk management. In the first year, students study Introductory Securities and Markets, Introductory Finance and Trading Simulation, Introductory Economics for Business and Finance, Introductory Quantitative Techniques, Ethics in Investment Management, and Business in Practice: Accounting for Managers. These modules introduce key concepts such as financial institutions, capital markets, economic behaviour, quantitative analysis, and ethical issues in global finance, while also covering emerging topics like cryptocurrencies, central bank digital currencies, and sustainable finance linked to Net Zero goals. In the second year, students progress to Corporate Finance, Portfolio Management, and Financial Modelling, applying theory to valuation, investment decision-making, and real-world financial problem-solving using tools such as Excel. In the final stage, learning focuses on Management of Risk and Derivative Securities, where students develop expertise in risk assessment, regulatory frameworks, and advanced trading strategies in financial markets. Across the programme, students combine theoretical understanding with practical application, gaining the analytical, technical, and decision-making skills required for careers in banking, investment management, financial services, and global financial markets in an evolving economic environment.
