COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Economics curriculum develops a strong foundation in economic theory, quantitative analysis, and empirical research, preparing students to understand and address complex economic challenges. In the first year, students study Introductory Microeconomics and Introductory Macroeconomics, gaining insight into market behaviour, economic growth, government intervention, inflation, and unemployment. Applied Economics and Policy introduces the use of economic thinking to analyse contemporary global issues and policymaking, while Mathematical Methods for Economists provides rigorous quantitative tools essential for economic analysis. Students also strengthen academic, research, and professional skills through Core Competencies in Economics. In the second year, learning becomes more analytical and data-driven through Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, where formal economic models are used to examine consumer and producer behaviour, market structures, growth, and stabilisation policies. Introductory and Intermediate Econometrics equip students with statistical and econometric techniques, including regression analysis and time-series modelling, enabling them to analyse real-world economic and financial data using specialist software. In the final year, students advance to specialised theoretical study through Advanced Microeconomics and Advanced Macroeconomics, exploring topics such as decision-making under uncertainty, labour and credit markets, asymmetric information, economic growth, business cycles, international development, and government policy. The programme combines theoretical rigour with practical analytical skills, preparing graduates for careers in economics, finance, policymaking, consulting, research, and related fields.
