COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Economics and Finance programme provides a rigorous blend of economic theory, quantitative analysis, and financial practice, preparing students for careers in banking, investment, financial analysis, consulting, and related sectors. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in microeconomics, macroeconomics, financial markets, quantitative techniques, and mathematical methods for economists. Modules such as Introductory Securities and Markets and Introductory Finance/Trading Simulation introduce key concepts including banking systems, capital budgeting, asset pricing, portfolio construction, derivatives, risk management, sustainable finance, and trading strategies. Students also develop academic and professional skills through Core Competencies in Economics. In the second year, the programme advances to Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, providing formal analytical frameworks for understanding markets, growth, inflation, unemployment, and policy interventions. Students further develop expertise through Data Science for Finance, which applies data analytics, econometric methods, and financial storytelling to decision-making, and Corporate Finance, which examines corporate valuation, financial strategy, governance, and value maximisation. In the final year, students specialise in advanced finance topics through Financial Economics, Financial Modelling, and Derivative Securities. These modules explore portfolio theory, asset pricing, financial intermediation, capital budgeting, regression analysis, bond and stock valuation, options pricing, futures, swaps, and risk management applications. Throughout the degree, students gain practical experience using industry-relevant tools and analytical techniques, combining economic reasoning with financial expertise to evaluate real-world financial challenges and make informed investment and business decisions.
