COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Construction Management programme at the University of Reading provides a structured progression from foundational construction knowledge to advanced project management and professional practice. In the early stage, students study core modules such as Construction Science, Construction Technology, Information and Communication, Introduction to Economics and Law, Empirical Studies and Site Engineering, and Introduction to Management and Projects, which build an understanding of materials, building systems, economics, legal frameworks, and communication methods including digital and BIM tools. In the second stage, learning advances into Management of Construction Projects 1, Building Environment Systems and Technology, Projects and Digitalisation, Construction Procurement and Contract Law, Introduction to Quantification and Computerised Taking Off, and Building Pathology and Surveying Practice, where students develop skills in project planning, cost control, environmental design, contract administration, and surveying techniques. In the final year, students complete a Construction Management Project, applying their knowledge to a real-world development scenario, alongside Management of Construction Projects 2 and a Research Skills and Dissertation module that develops independent research capability. The programme integrates sustainability, digitalisation, and professional practice throughout, ensuring graduates are industry-ready. Overall, it prepares students for careers in construction project management, consultancy, contracting, and broader roles within the global built environment sector.
