COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Computer Science programme at the University of Reading provides a structured, in-depth pathway to mastering modern computing through a combination of theory, practical programming, and applied problem-solving. In the first stage, students build core foundations through modules such as Computer Systems Architecture, Databases, Mathematics and Computation, Imperative Programming, and Object-Oriented Programming, gaining essential knowledge of hardware-software interaction, data management, mathematical modelling, and programming in languages like Java and MATLAB. In the final year, students complete a major Degree Project, applying their accumulated skills to an independent computing problem. They also choose optional modules such as Machine Learning, Virtual Reality and Games, Data Visualisation, Image Analysis, Blockchain and Security, Natural Language Processing, and Cloud-based AI Solutions, allowing specialisation in cutting-edge fields.
