COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Education and Psychology programme develops a combined understanding of educational practice and psychological theory, focusing on how people learn, develop, and are supported across different educational contexts. In the first year, students study core modules such as Education for Inclusion, which explores diverse learning needs and inclusive educational practice, and Exploring Educational Practice, which introduces key aspects of teaching and learning through the design of learning activities. Alongside this, psychology modules including Learning about Learning, The Person and the Brain, Introduction to Psychological Research, and Debates in Mental Health provide a foundation in learning theory, cognitive and biological psychology, mental health, and research methods. In the second year, students deepen their understanding through modules such as Becoming an Educator, which includes an educational placement and focuses on professional skills like communication, reflection, and teamwork. Psychology is further developed through Cognitive and Biological Psychology, Development Across the Lifespan, Research Methods in Psychology, and Social Psychology and Individual Differences, strengthening knowledge of behaviour, development, cognition, and data analysis techniques. In the final year, students undertake a school placement focused on developing transferable teaching-related skills and complete an independent research project involving the full research process from literature review to data analysis and reporting. Overall, the programme integrates theory and practice across both disciplines, preparing students for careers in education, psychology, research, and related professional fields.
