COURSE CURRICULUM

This BA Economics degree provides a structured progression from foundational economic principles to advanced policy analysis, equipping students with the theoretical and quantitative tools needed to understand real-world economic issues. In the first year, you build core knowledge through Principles of Economics 1 and 2, where you study microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, market behaviour, and the role of government in addressing market failures, alongside Applied Economics and Policy, which develops your ability to apply economic reasoning to contemporary issues. You also develop essential skills in Quantitative Methods and Data Analysis and Core Competencies in Economics, strengthening your academic writing, data handling, and independent learning abilities. In the second year, you deepen your understanding through Intermediate Microeconomics and Intermediate Macroeconomics, exploring topics such as game theory, market structure, inflation, unemployment, and economic growth, supported by Introductory Econometrics, which introduces statistical methods for analysing economic data, and Economics of Social Policy, which applies theory to issues such as inequality, health, education, and housing. In your final year, you specialise through optional modules such as Behavioural Economics, Environmental Economics, Money and Banking, Development Economics, and International Economics, while completing a Dissertation that involves independent research on a chosen economic question. Overall, the degree develops strong analytical, mathematical, and policy-oriented skills for careers in economics, finance, government, and international organisations.
