COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules of the MSc Counselling program provide a comprehensive foundation for developing both practical counselling skills and research expertise. An Introduction to Research Methods equips students with the knowledge and tools necessary to conduct rigorous research, fostering analytical and evaluative skills applicable to counselling practice. Counselling in Context explores the theoretical and ethical frameworks of counselling, helping students understand the diverse settings, client needs, and societal factors that influence therapeutic work. Developing a Counselling Identity encourages students to reflect on their personal and professional growth, considering how their values, experiences, and interpersonal dynamics shape their effectiveness as practitioners. Person Centred Theory and Practice focuses on core counselling approaches, enabling students to apply evidence-based methods in client interactions. Personal and Professional Development supports the ongoing enhancement of skills, resilience, and reflective capacity, preparing students for lifelong learning within the profession. Professional Practice Hours provide hands-on experience in counselling, allowing students to integrate theory with practical application under supervision. Reflective Practice encourages critical self-evaluation, helping students identify strengths, areas for growth, and strategies for improving client outcomes. The MSc Thesis offers the opportunity to undertake an independent research project, applying methodological skills to a topic relevant to counselling theory or practice.
